Bruger:Stefan G. Rasmussen
Stefan G. Rasmussen (b. 23 July 1947 in Randers, Denmark) trained as pilot in the Danish Air Force and graduated from Williams Air Force Base, Arizona in 1973 (class 74-01).
On 27 December 1991, he was the Captain of SAS flight 751, an MD-81, OY-KHO which crash-landed at Gottröra, Sweden. In the initial climb both engines ingested ice breaking loose from the wings, which had not been properly deiced before departure. Both engines were destroyed, leaving the aircraft with no propulsion. The aircraft landed in a field and broke in three parts. No fire broke out and all aboard the plane survived. Rasmussen was later decorated by the Danish Queen for his outstanding and professional performance.
Rasmussen has received several recognitions, such as: IATA Polaris Award, IAPA Outstanding Service Award, Aviation Week & Space Tecnologi Laurals Award and Hall of Fame recognition and The Golden Medal from the Swedish King.
Rasmussen was a member of the Danish Parliament from 1994 to 1996 but had to quit due to suffering from severe tinnitus that he got after the SAS flight 751 incident. Today he is a lecturer and author.
